The UM110 Beam Diagnostic System provides improved
system quality assurance. It is:
- Simple
- Accurate
- Fast
- Flexible
The UM110 can routinely assess the condition of laser beams in
order to minimise downtime and production failures. Advanced electronics
and control systems combined with a unique detection system offer the
user a wide range of features that combine to produce a simple and effective
beam monitoring solution, with data that is easy to obtain and
intepret.

System commissioning
Use of a UM profiler can dramatically reduce the
time taken for a commissioning engineer or operator to align a laser
or a complex optical system for optimum performance. Significant
time and cost savings can be made. System monitoring and QA
Integration of a UM profiler
to a laser facilitates simple comparison of the system with data collected
during commissioning.
Access to the measurement database shows long-term performance, allowing
output window condition to be assessed. The UM profiler can also provide
data on beam condition and the alignment condition of the beam path.
System alignment
Mounting of a UM profiler within
the beam guidance train permits beam position to be accurately checked
and adjusted without
the need for harmful burn print operations.
In-process beam monitoring
Measure the properties
of your laser beam without affecting the process! Essential for improving
quality assurance.

Sampling
The UM series profilers are equipped with a high specification scanning
system consisting of a ruggedised optical sampling needle that is activated
when requested whether monitoring off-line or during processing.
Measurements
A single beam sample takes approximately 50ms, and provides all the necessary
data for calculating:
• X- and Y- beam profiles
• Beam diameter
• Beam position
Onboard Intelligence
The UM profiler contains a sophisticated on-board processor that performs
all necessary calculations output to a standard PC, laptop or hand-held
PDA.
High Sampling rates
The high averaging rate of up to
26Hz allows for full beam characterisation in a fraction of a second.
The provision of high-speed profile updates
enables the user to align lasers without the need for PMMA “mode
burns”. Speed limited by communications rate.
Auto Settings
Advanced on-board electronics provides auto null circuitry, coupled to
digitally controlled amplifiers which allows the diagnosis of beams
from W to kW without the need for changing sensors, needles or adjusting
pre-amps.
High Resolution
The UM profilers provide a typical optical resolution of <100
microns for 50mm clear apertures. The resolution can be increased by a
simple change of the motor encoder units.
Compact Housing
UM profilers offer a compact solution enabling the device to be located
